Dolmen is keen to promote the use of traditional building materials in construction and repair work and assist the conservation of built heritage by providing consultancy and advice and by supplying a wide range of these materials. The traditional materials are produced by a team of skilled craftsmen achieving the highest of standards throughout the product range. Dolmen's
philosophy is to encourage the use of traditional materials on built
heritage, (which allow the buildings to breathe) rather than modern
equivalents that often have detrimental, rather than positive effects
on historic fabric.
All products are supplied with professional technical advice that supports
the care and repair of historic buildings. |

| Woodland Products | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This branch
of the company concentrates on the sustainability and productivity of
our heritage woodland. The company owns and sensitively manages large
areas of ancient semi-natural woodland. As part of this management process
the materials extracted from the woodland are utilised via the manufacture
of woodland products. The products range from charcoal (which is burnt
in our own kilns) to timber frame building components (which are sawn
in our milling yard). |

| Timber Framed Buildings | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Timber has been used for building in this country from the earliest times right up to the present day. Medieval carpentry generated a flare of ingenuity in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries with some of the most ambitious work done in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries just before iron and steel took over from timber in many roles. However, some work remains for the skilled carpenter and in our own times there has been a resurgence in the use of timber for building. Dolmen
design, produce and supply a range of timber framed building. The buildings
are designed and supplied to match the individual demands of our customers.
All the designs are constructed to the highest of carpentry standards
using traditional carpentry skills. |
